Brooke Breckner is currently an MFA candidate at SUNY New Paltz. She received her BFA from Wayne State University’s College of Fine, Performing, and Communication Arts in 2015. Her artistic work had been focused in drawing, illustration, and tattoo art before she began her studies in metalsmithing. She is best known for her work about her personal experience with juvenile diabetes and the body. Her current work is experimental and involves the exploitation of materials and their properties in unusual or unexpected ways. Her work has been shown at the ArtBar Gallery in Kingston, NY, College for Creative Studies, the Eleanor & Edsel Ford House, and the Wayne State University James Pearson Duffy Gallery. Her work has been featured by the Michigan Silversmiths’ Guild and was awarded the Albert & Peggy DeSalle Scholarship in Metal Arts in 2014.
From Detroit, Michigan, Brooke has a keen respect for the city and its hardworking people. "It breeds a special kind of craftsperson." She intends to continue being a part of and contributing to the activity and culture of such a determined and unique community.
